Fotografiens Hus presents the exhibition Together, Apart. The exhibition weaves together two projects that each explore the human body and its physical and mental connections to nature in their own ways: Dear body I’m sorry by Anna Fabricius and KROPP/BODY/CUERPO by eso malflor.

KROPP/BODY/CUERPO by eso malflor is a photographic and site-specific series that explores the body’s connection to landscapes, and the influence of nature on our belonging and identity. The project documents the landscape of Nevelsfjord in Northern Norway, where malflor’s family traces its roots back to the 19th century. Inspired by the performance artist Ana Mendieta’s Siluetas, they create human-like forms from natural materials gathered from the landscape. These silhouettes are left to the elements, wind and animals, before malflor returns year after year to photograph their transformation and gradual dissolution. Based on the idea that we more easily empathize with what we recognize ourselves in, the silhouettes illustrate the interdependence between humans and the environment. The camera records temporary, site-specific actions that would otherwise have disappeared, preserving them as images of intertwined cycles between body and landscape. The project captures the uniqueness of the landscape, our common transience, and the connections between humans and the more-than-human world.
