CONTROLLED BURN
2024 - ongoing
This series of paintings are made with soil, water, and fire. By burning palo de ocote / tjarved / pinewood, I draw with the element of fire, the smoke, soot, and resin. The controlled burn serves as a metaphor for actions we take that may initially seem harmful but serve as a means of preventing a much larger catastrophe in the future. A controlled or prescribed burn also restores and regenerates an ecological system or environment, encouraging it to grow and thrive.

The subjects of these paintings include transexual bodies i.e. individuals including myself who have medically transitioned via hormone replacement therapy and/or gender affirming surgery, in addition to scenes of landscapes, and political uprisings.
